I love to see a good photography “timeline” if you will. The same spot, the same outfit, different time. Pregnancy progression photos are awesome…although I don’t have any good ones of my own pregnancies. If I am blessed with another baby, I will make sure to take good pregnancy “timeline” photos. I am not exactly sure where the calendar baby idea came from but I did this with Micah…so I saw the idea sometime before April 2008 and back then I didn’t have a good way to catalog my ideas like I do now. Are you on Pinterest? If not you better start!! It’s totally addicting and totally helpful. I love being able to go back to the original source for something and give proper credit…before pinterst I had a hard time keeping track of ideas. So…head on over and check out pinterst and follow along with me if you’d like.

Back to the story at hand. I’m not sure where the idea came from but I’m so glad that I did it and have stuck with it each month. It’s so fun to see how my baby has grown and progressed and how I can easily spot the months she “bulked up” or started slimming down or got more hair or wouldn’t lay still… Some of these photos have been harder to capture than others but I always get at least one salvageable image! Here is Hannah’s calendar “timeline” up to this point!

The challenge over at i heart faces this week is the color white…but it has to be a color photograph. Since I can’t get Hannah to sit still for a photo I had in mind I thought I’d use this one of Micah when I took the kids photographs on my bed. They had a great time doing these photos and it was a fun challenge for me to try and get it at just the right moment! I love this one of Micah in between the sheets…such a handsome little dude!

The challenge over at The Paper Mama is to share your favorite photo from August. I took a lot of fun photos in August…Naomi’s first day of pre-school, Micah and Greg going to the baseball game, the end of our vacation, and LOTS more to choose from. But I LOVE this one of Hannah from a little impromptu session we had in the front yard with the vintage stroller that was handed down to me from Greg’s grandparents home. I can’t wait to share more from this mini session. But here’s my favorite shot of August.IMG_9857

Greg took Micah to a Jackson Generals Baseball game last week while Naomi was still sick. Micah was really excited about going to the game and watched as long as his three year old attention span allowed. I love that even though we live in a small(er) town we are still able to go to baseball games. There was no baseball in San Antonio so we didn’t get to take in too many games. We also enjoy that it’s not the majors because then we don’t have to pay as much and with short attention spans you never know how it’s going to go. I snapped a few photos of my guys before they left for the game, and yes I used my flash because it was late in the day and the lighting was terrible. Oh well, as least I have these memories captured!

{Jackson, TN lifestyle photographer, child photographer}

Those of you who know us well know how back and forth we have been with our children’s education. But up until this point it didn’t really matter because our children weren’t old enough to be in school. When we moved to Jackson we quickly realized that private school options were limited and we had heard many differing opinions on the public school system. Before we had children we decided that we’d like for them to go to a Lutheran School (LCMS) for the early years, if that was at all possible. If that was not possible we would look for other good private school options.

I have also thought often about homeschooling and have dabbled in it here and there. The idea of homeschooling is SO appealing to me. Our own schedule. Our own rules. Freedom to travel. Freedom to learn “on location” sometimes. The freedom of homeschooling is what is so appealing to me. The actual planning, implementing, following through…not so much. I’m a creative thinker. I’m a fly by the seat of my pants kind of girl. I would excel at homeschooling if it only involved art, crafts, photography, recess, lunch and reading books. Alas it does not. My husband even jokes that I’d be good at it but the kids would never learn to meet a deadline. So I had to give my mommy pride a kick in the pants and realize that I was not cut out for homeschooling. This may not come as a surprise to many of you that know me…but it did come as a surprise to me. And it hurts. My mommy guilt is now showing up in a major way. But I know that the guilt of not being “qualified” to homeschool will go away once I see my daughters face light up when she walks into her classroom today. I KNOW that she will LOVE being in a classroom with a teacher and other kids her age. I KNOW that she will LOVE learning new things. I KNOW that she will LOVE making new friends. I just wanted to be the one to do it with her. But I know that not everyone is supposed to homeschool…just really wish I was. REALLY wish I was.

So, in a matter of 6 days we did lots of research, toured the school we liked best. Met with the teacher. Naomi did some testing. Paid our registration fee. Got her registered. Got supplies. Got her uniform. Got her ready and excited to go to school…all after school had already started. But we just weren’t sure. We figured that I would homeschool this year and that she’d start in Kindergarten next year. She probably could have done Kindergarten this year but she was born one day too late!!! She’d be ready. But we’ll get her started with this whole school thing slowly. She will be attending St. Mary’s Catholic School for Pre-K with Miss B two days a week. She’s very excited and CANNOT wait. We are excited for her too and cannot wait to begin this new journey with her.

We got her uniforms yesterday and got new shoes and some school supplies and I made sure to have a mini photo session with her to help us all remember this big day in our lives. The day we start sending our child to school. The day we begin to meet teachers, and deadlines, and lunch lines and car pool lines. The day we hand part of Naomi’s education over to another highly qualified person. The day we walk hand in hand with an education system that works. That will teach her more than art, and crafts. The day we share our daughter with her teacher and classmates. This is not as easy as I thought it would be. It’ll be quiet around here (but I’m sure Micah will make up for her absence). But it’s the beginning of a beautiful thing. Before I go on too long…because I probably already have…here are photos of my sweet girl on *the day before* her first day of school.

This handsome little guy wanted in on the photo action too. I know he’s going to miss his playmate on Tuesdays and Thursdays but he’ll enjoy some one on one time with me while Hannah naps too!IMG_0106
