The kids and I were playing outside the other day when Naomi noticed something by the gutter. She thought it was a bee, then I looked at what she was talking about and realized it was a dragonfly. I don’t see dragonflies all too often, and when I’ve seen them before they seem to fly away pretty quickly. This dragonfly stuck around for a while and allowed me to grab my camera and capture a few frames before it flew away.  I was tempted to get a chair and get closer but I didn’t want to scare it away. I love how these images turned out. This was totally different for me and out of my league of photography but it’s good to be stretched and to try new things. I would love to try some macro photography…guess I’ll have to rent a lens and try it out. Here’s our little dragonfly friend!

I would love to have some business cards for my blog. I’m really trying to make an effort to get it out there and some vibrant business cards would really help. Thanks for hosting the giveaway.

My husband’s parents came to visit for the weekend…it’s so nice that we live close enough now for weekend trips. The kids were so excited to have grandma and grandpa around. We’re so glad that they were able to join us for the weekend…plus they brought us some more bacon from the farm!! We played some games, had some good laughs, celebrated birthdays, and made lots of great memories. It will be nice to be able to see them more often and I’m excited that the kids will be able to spend more time with their grandparents.IMG_9188

What does real life look like? Neatly dressed children sitting quietly in a pristine house reading books to themselves. Babies who don’t cry when they have a dirty diaper, rather they bring you a clean one when they need to be changed. Laundry that folds AND puts itself away. Yeah right. Wake up.

But really, I think real life looks better than that. Children sitting in the middle of a room surrounded by books reading their own words. Babies squealing with happiness at the sight of their siblings. I’m not a big fan of the dirty diapers, the messy rooms, stained carpet but it means I’ve got little ones to love. I don’t enjoy doing the laundry all the time but it means we’ve been blessed with enough money to buy the clothes and friends who’ve been kind enough to pass on their gently used clothes. Life is complicated, messy, exhausting, but it’s also rewarding, filled with joy, satisfying. I often wonder how different my everyday life is from other peoples. I’m curious what others do for fun, how they handle bedtime, what they cook for dinner, how the laundry gets folded while the kids are around and well, just how they live life. So I’m giving you a quick glimpse into my life. This all happened within five minutes so it’s just a little glimpse, but this is our life.

Our nephew Michael is spending the week with us and we are really enjoying having him here. He has been playing outside with the kids a lot and they’ve all been working on their baseball swing. Michael has even hit the ball over the house a few times. It’s been so great to be able to fold laundry without my helpers, to get some things done for the re-launch of JTPhotography and to make new memories. It’s great that we live close enough to hang out with our family more (although we do miss our friends in San Antonio). Thanks for coming to hang out with us for a week Michael…we really enjoyed having you here! I wouldn’t trade anything for these kinds of days. I wouldn’t give up this time with my kids for anything…but I would be willing to trade something for the dirty diapers!
