Swimming, swinging, sprinklers, bike riding, and air conditioning…some of my favorite things about summer. It’s been pretty hot here this past week. Our air was out from Saturday night until Monday at noon but we survived. When I was a kid I’m pretty sure that I liked to play outside, but probably liked to be inside more. When I grew up I really didn’t like to be outside too much. Now that I have kids, I really enjoy being outside. Maybe because there’s freedom, space, and open air to capture the screams and giggles. Maybe it’s because to me the outdoors allow my children to be more creative, more free to be themselves without all the toys inside directing their play. Maybe it’s because a tree and a rope become Christmas lights and a house, or a rein and a stable. Maybe it’s because a bike becomes a horse and the princess can gallop away to safety away from the tiger. Maybe it’s because my children can be whomever they care to be and can change their mind at the drop of a hat and that’s okay. Yes, that’s it. I love summertime and all that it holds. The possibilities are endless as long as the imagination is alive and well. Here’s to many more summer days of fun, adventure, swimming and sprinklers!

Hannah really does love to swing even though her expression says otherwise!IMG_9060

Bennet was a little timid about the sprinkler at first, but he enjoyed himself thoroughly.

Do you know how hard it is to pick one photo? one! Well, I really couldn’t just pick one of my best shots, I mean, I’ve got three adorable children and they’re all pretty photogenic and I always seem to have my camera around so there are TONS of photos to choose from. So, I picked my top six (two of each kid) and then narrowed it down and down some more and this is the one that I kept coming back to. I probably shared this image earlier when I shared Micah’s third year photo shoot but I really do love this image. To me, this encompasses who Micah is and some of the things I love about him. He’s a little shy (sometimes) but has a smile that can light up a room. He has these amazing eye lashes that go on for miles. He’s got a great personality, carefree, playful, loving, compassionate, happy, caring, and I could go on and on (I am his mother after all). This photo is really one of my new favorites and I hope that others who know him would agree that it’s a pretty accurate photo of who Micah is…and not just what he looks like!

When it is hot outside and the air conditioner is broken…you go swimming and cool off. The kids had a blast playing in the water and they loved it when Hannah joined them. Hannah loved it too and just splashed and splashed and tried moving around in the pool like she does on dry ground. It was a great way to cool off and spend a few hours enjoying our summer. It’s moments like these that make me so grateful that I am able to stay home with my children. Impromptu swimming and an morning of giggles, funny stories, playing with your siblings and for me just watching my kids be kids, that’s what it’s all about.

Not exactly sure what they were doing here but I just love the capture of the water, it almost looks fake or plastic.

Our sweet little next door neighbor had her first ballet recital yesterday. It was so fun to grab a few quick photographs of her before her big performance. Both sets of her grandparents also made a long drive to come and see her recital. It totally took me back to my first tap recital. I’m so glad that I have some photographs that my mother took of me before my recital and after it with my grandparents. I probably wouldn’t have known that they were there if she hadn’t taken those photographs. Capturing the special moments in life is what it’s all about for me. I not only LOVE to capture the every day moments so that we can see “what life was like” someday when we look back but I also love to capture the big moments. The moments that you will want to relive and share stories of with your children when they get older.

Thank you Marcia for allowing me to help capture this special time in the life of your family. Sara Grace was incredible and did her dance flawlessly. I hope that when she gets older and you sit to look through your photo albums that you will both have fond memories of this exciting and special time. Can’t wait to see the next recital!!!IMG_8930

I love the age my little Hannah is at. She’s starting to “talk” more but with that talking comes some screaming which I could do without. She’s recently discovered her love of standing and will pull herself up very quickly. She does not crawl yet but can get just about anywhere she wants with a combination of pushing herself backwards, spinning on her tummy and moving to a sitting position from lying on the floor. She is such a happy baby but please don’t mess with her nap or food…she loves them both! She really loves to watch her big brother and sister and can’t wait to join them in the fun they have. Naomi and Micah also LOVE their little Hannah and want to be around her and see her eyes all the time. We are so blessed to have little Hannah in our family. I wanted to grab a few photos of her in this dress…it’s one of my favorites that I picked up for her at Target with a gift card we got when she was born! Just wanted to share some of my favorites here…and Naomi loves the camera too so she got in on a few of the photos as well.
